The 2008 August PrimaryOn March 18th, the US Supreme Court ruled that I-872, the Top Two Primary, was not unconstitutional. This overruled the 9th District Court of Appeals. Here is a document from the Secretary of State about the new Primary system. We will post more information as it becomes available. Initiative 26, and the council proposed alternative, would change the King County Executive, Assessor and Council from Partisan (Republican or Democrat) to Non-partisan. At the Executive Board Meeting on Tuesday, August 5th, the following resolution was presented and passed: Resolved, that the Executive Board of the 46th District Democrats oppose changing the King County Charter to make the Executive, Assessor and Council positions non-partisan. Resolved, that the Executive Board of the 46th District Democrats urge our members and allies to vote no on the first question. Resolved, that the Executive Board of the 46th District Democrats urge our members and allies to vote for the Council-provided alternative in case the first question passes on August 19th. |
