2019 Endorsements
For the general voting public:
These endorsed candidates are all progressive Democrats whom we as the 46th District Democrats feel are the best possible choices to lead our cities and schools in this time of division and distrust. These candidates have the experience, ability, and philosophy of progressive governance which will help our communities succeed and thrive on the local level.

For Members of the 46th District:
The major endorsement meeting for the 46th District Democrats was held on Sunday, May 19th, at Nathan Hale High School. We made our final remaining endorsements for the Primary at our meeting on June 27th. General Election Endorsements in races where we had no endorsed candidate occurred at the August and September district meetings.
The above candidates and positions on issues received an endorsement for the 2019 Election Cycle by the 46th District Democrats. As long as these candidates (or at least one of the candidates in dual endorsements) makes it through the primary, these endorsements will carry through all the way to the General Election on November 5th, 2019.
We hold our endorsement meeting so early, as the candidates who wish to highlight our endorsement in their voters' pamphlet statement, have only one week after filing in which to submit their voters' pamphlet statement.
In any races in which there were no candidates who requested an endorsement, thus we did not consider those races at the May 19th meeting, are still open for endorsement. For any races in which we do have an endorsed candidate listed below, our endorsements for this cycle at least through the Primary, are now closed.
Completed questionnaires for all candidates and initiatives requesting our endorsement may be found here: Candidate and Initiative Questionnaires
For Candidates & Campaigns:
Endorsements are now closed for 2019. This information is archived for future information as to the process.
Thank you for your interest in receiving an endorsement from the 46th District Democrats!
You will find a copy of our endorsement rules here: 2019 46th Democrats Endorsement Rules
We held our major 2019 endorsement meeting on May 19th, and endorsements were made in most races appearing on the August Primary ballot in the 46th District. We made two additional endorsements in races not previously considered on at our June 27th meeting. After reading the information below, please contact the district if you have any additional questions.
If a race was not considered at the May 19th meeting, we will consider making additional endorsements at future meetings. Candidates must submit questionnaires at least 10 days in advance of the meeting at which they wish to be considered. We will meet on June 27th, July 13th (picnic), August 21st, and in September date TBA. Please contact [email protected], if you have any questions about our endorsement procedures.
We endorse in races that are wholly or partly within the 46th Legislative District, which encompasses Kenmore, Lake Forest Park, and northeast Seattle. Offices for which we consider endorsements include federal offices which overlap or encompass the 46th District, King County offices which overlap or encompass the 46th District, as well as all Washington statewide offices.
Unlike many districts who vet candidates by asking them to sit for an endorsement interview, our membership prefers to directly endorse candidates. For the 2019 election cycle, you will need to fill out the correct 46th District Democrats' questionnaire (click on office category below for and editable Word format questionnaire to answer).
You will find that the 46th LD questionnaires are extremely similar to the King County Democrats' Questionnaires, and that many of your answers for your KCDCC questionnaire may be cut and pasted, and used without significant editing. Please be aware, however, that we do post the questionnaires publicly.
Click on office category name to access the questionnaires:
Municipal offices (including both cities and special purpose districts)
Judicial seats at all levels (this questionnaire is designed to not violate Canon 7)
School Board Directors (all districts)
Ballot Measures (State, county, school, local)
Please fill out the questionnaire as though you were being asked questions in a public forum or for the press. We post the questionnaires publicly on our district website for the information of our members who will ultimately vote on the endorsement.
Please submit your questionnaire along with your request for endorsement via the 46th LD 2019 Endorsement Request form.
(The above link will simultaneously submit your questionnaire to the endorsements chair and the email address "[email protected]", fulfilling the stated requirement in the district bylaws.)
Your questionnaire must be received ten calendar days in advance of anendorsement meeting. Exceptions to accept a late questionnaire require a 2/3 vote of members present and voting at an Endorsement meeting. So, to be eligible for consideration at the Sunday, May 19, 2019 Endorsement meeting, you must submit your questionnaire by the end of the day (11:59 PM PDT) on Thursday, May 9th, 2019.
You may also wish to review our full endorsement procedures ahead of the meeting. There are minor changes from 2018 and 2017. You will find them here: 2019 46th LD Endorsement Rules
