What do Membership Dues Support? Membership dues support the costs associated with running the 46th Legislative District, including:
- the programs and platforms to hold our meetings and do our financials
- the online tools to host our website, store membership data and send out communications
- printing literature supporting endorsed candidates
- PCO and new member recruiting materials
- printing informational literature and sample ballots
- running the caucuses
- plus everything else that goes into running the LD!

Your contributions allow the 46th to have an active and robust organization.  Thank you for all you do to support our shared Democratic values!

NOTE: Washington State Public Disclosure law covering financing of political activity requires that we ask for your employer and occupation. We are not just nosy. If you don't have an employer put N/A in both "employer" and "occupation" fields, and if you are self-employed put "self-employed" in employer and describe your occupation, and if you are retired, put "retired" in both fields. Political contributions are not tax deductible.

Why Become a Member?

Paid membership in the 46th District Democrats comes with many benefits. Here are a few good reasons why you should join or renew your dues:

  • Voting Credentials

Paid members of the 46th get to vote on endorsing candidates, ballot measures and resolutions, electing some executive board positions like At-Large Members of the Executive Board; and adopting and amending our budget. Endorsement votes, especially, can be close, so your vote can determine if your preferred candidate’s name or ballot measure appears in our endorsement guides, which are distributed to thousands of households during election cycles.

  • Dues Make a Difference

Your donations go to keeping our legislative district running and voter outreach expenses such as meeting room rentals, running caucuses, hosting the 46th LD website and social media vehicles and printing thousands of endorsement guides for distribution each year. Outreach efforts work! We knocked on thousands of doors during the recent election year. During the pandemic and the 2020 Presidential Election, we pivoted to phone banks, text banks, and mailing our fliers, and again had over 90% turnout, and we hope to do it again in 2024! We’re an entirely unpaid, volunteer-run organization, and we count on dues and contributions from engaged citizens like you to fund the work necessary to get progressives elected.

  • Stay in the Know

Members get exclusive access to email bulletins with local political news, action items, and more. We do our best to keep you informed without overwhelming your inbox. We value transparency for our members.

Is my contribution tax deductible?

It is not. We are a bona-fide political organization with non-taxable status under the federal tax code, but our classification does not allow for tax deductible contributions.

How about campaigns?

The 46th District Democrats customarily does not provide any direct cash contributions to political campaigns. Our focus is on Getting Out the Vote (GOTV), organizing and educating our members. Much of your dues do go towards our mail and field operation, and the sample ballot with our endorsements, which is circulated to tens of thousands of households in the 46th legislative districts.

I'm living lightly right now - is there a way to still participate and have voting rights?

We are not interested in sidelining Democrats who are unable to pay annual dues at the full amount. Contact our chair - [email protected] - about opportunities to have dues waived for full voting rights and contribute in other ways to the 46th District.

I'm a PCO - do I still have to contribute?

The costs associated with our training events for PCOs, and more generally for the organization, are continuous. While PCOs enjoy voting rights by virtue of being PCOs, we always encourage PCOs to become members as well.

NOTE: State Law requires we ask for your employer and occupation. If you don't have an employer put N/A, and if you are self-employed put "self-employed" in employer and describe your occupation, and if you are retired, put "retired".  Political contributions are not tax deductible under state and federal law.
