RESCHEDULED Summer Picnic 2020, GOTV volunteering, and more!

Dear 46th LD Dems,

I wanted to send a brief note to alert everyone that after some discussion amongst the 46th LD Executive Board, we have decided to postpone our Picnic by a week, now July 18th @1pm. We want to ensure we would be centering the event around a speaker list, which is better in keeping with our tradition of having a strong GOTV kickoff for the August Primary. Bringing together candidates and canvassers to get you ready for the phonebanks, is how we as an organization want to help bring democracy to the people. I hope you can join us!

  • 46th LD Democrats Virtual Summer Picnic: Sat July 18th @1pm
  • Volunteer to help Get out the Vote in 2020
  • PCO 101 with the King County Democrats

To keep people safe during the COVID-19 crisis, we’ve avoided meeting in person, and are not able to do our traditional Summer Picnic to kick off our GOTV door-knocking efforts for the August Primaries. I also wanted to let folks know that in response to the significant spike in reported COVID-19 (our cases statewide have doubled in the last two weeks), we as the 46th LD Democrats Executive Board urge you not to participate in traditional door-to-door outreach at this time.  It is imperative that we, as an organization, advocate for and practice policies that keep both our membership and our community safe.

But in lieu of in-person meetings, we hope you can join us for a virtual version of our Summer Picnic. We’ll look to hear from candidates, and PCOs will receive their precinct phonebank lists! We’ll be specifically highlighting candidates that you’ll later have the opportunity to advocate for during events this summer. Keep an eye out for emails in the next couple weeks announcing these candidates and why they deserve our support and our work. Join us on Saturday July 18th @1pm at this Zoom link.

And that’s just the beginning of the cycle. We’d also love to get folks to sign up to volunteer in our on-going efforts through November as well. We’ve put together a list of activities from PCO recruitment to phone banking in the 46thand beyond. We’d love to get your help putting in the work necessary to make this election cycle a success, even under the most trying of circumstances. Make your voice heard by finding the GOTV Volunteer form here {https://forms.gle/KsSPRsdY6SgDeTUz5}. And if for any reason you are unable to click into the form, don’t hesitate to reach out to me directly ([email protected]), and I’ll take the time to help you out.

And it’s not too late to build your skillset on GOTV strategy. The King County Democrats are putting on the final in a series of PCO trainings. I went to the first one last Saturday and had a great time meeting new PCOs and hearing their stories, hosted by the 46th’s own Anne Udaloy and Melissa Taylor. There will likely be other dates in coming months, but make sure to make some time now! Click the link to register.

There are a lot of ways to be involved this critical election cycle and we hope you join us in this work!

RESCHEDULED! Summer Picnic, July 11th @1pm, GOTV Volunteering, and more!

UPDATE:  SUMMER PICNIC HAS CHANGED DATES.  NEW SUMMER PICNIC DATE HAS BEEN MOVED TO SATURDAY JULY 18TH AT 1:00PM.  PLEASE READ MOST RECENT BLOG POST FOR MORE DETAILS. THANK YOU.

Dear 46th LD Dems,

Watching the news in times like these, it is important to find a way to remain grounded in the moment. As we see the COVID-19 crisis moving into a second wave when the first wave never really ended, and when the current occupant of the White House finds new ways to go lower, it matters that we commit to being heard and being counted. Even when problems are inconceivably large, we Democrats are called to the work before us to change things for the better.

As I mentioned before, it matters that we are all counted. So this is a reminder to both participate in the census and urge friends and family to do the same. This ensures a fair apportionment of political power and resources in the decade to come. Find the link here. As for being heard, we in the 46th LD Democrats offer a number of opportunities in the coming weeks and months to make sure we have the power to make change.

  • 46th LD Democrats Virtual Summer Picnic: Sat July 11th @1pm
  • Volunteer to help Get out the Vote in 2020
  • Meet our Next Treasurer, Mike Pelliciotti: Tues June 30th @5pm
  • PCO 101 with the King County Democrats virtual trainings
  • Participate with the National Platform ahead of the National Convention

To keep people safe during the COVID-19 crisis, we’ve avoided meeting in person, so we are not able to do our traditional Summer Picnic to kick off our GOTV efforts ahead of the August Primaries. Instead, we hope you can join us for a virtual Barbecue. We’ll look to hear from candidates, PCOs will receive their phonebank lists, breakout into small groups, and visit one another’s yards and spaces that we’ve been cooped up in for the last few months! Join us next Saturday July 11th @1pm at this Zoom link.

And that’s just the beginning of the cycle. We’d also love to get folks to sign up to volunteer in our on-going efforts through November as well. Every election matters, and tomorrow, June 30th @5pm, you have the opportunity to hear from a great candidate running for State Treasurer, Mike Pellicciotti, in an online event hosted by the 46th’s own State Rep Gerry Pollet and Kathy Sakahara. Learn about the importance of having a progressive Democratic State Treasurer to replace the current regressive Republican and other timely topics for Washington state. You can donate and RSVP here.

Whether you are a new PCO wanting to build your skill-set or a current PCO looking for a refresher on GOTV strategy, The King County Democrats are putting on a series of PCO trainings, hosted by the 46th’s own Anne Udaloy and Melissa Taylor. I went to the first one on Saturday and had a great time meeting new PCOs and hearing their stories. There are still two sessions coming up soon, so I hope you will make time for one of these. Click the links below to register.

Finally, Democratic National Committee Chair Tom Perez and Platform Drafting Committee Chair Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms announced a series of virtual hearings regarding the national platform. The hearings are designed to allow the Drafting Committee to engage in a robust dialogue with Americans from all walks of life on the ideas and solutions that will best articulate our party’s vision for the country. These will be live-streamed on the DNCC’s YouTube channel found here. For more information, please email[email protected].
